About Us

Hi! We're Lindsay and Courtney. We fall hard and we move quick. We met in a little town called Wimberley, Texas. In our first two years together, we moved across the country to take care of Court's sick mom, built and lived in a tiny house shed while there, got engaged, bought land here in Lindsay's hometown of Woodstock, lost mom, got married, moved back to Texas, scooped up our two dogs, horse and mini donkeys and moved to Virginia to build our house (and temporarily live in a shed once again), and open our tattoo business. Both Lindsay and Courtney have dreamed of owning a business with a storefront and like the doers we are, we did just that. Welcome to The Black Rose Tattoo & Lounge! All are welcomed with or without getting some ink. We want this to be everyone's space and somewhere for the community to gather and enjoy each other's company.

The Black Rose Origin Story:

Court's dad grew up in Boston and eventually got a job working as a bouncer at a local bar called The Black Rose. When you meet Dan, you'll think how the hell was this sweet lanky man ever a bouncer? That's beside the point. One night when he was working, him and a buddy were hanging outside as a woman turned the corner a few blocks down and started walking in their direction. Her name was Molly. Dan nudges his friend and says, “You see that girl over there? I’m gonna marry her one day.” His buddy laughs and Molly continues down the street and right to the door Dan was working.

May 7th, 2024, five kids later, and a week after Molly’s 64th birthday, he held her hand as tight as that first night 35 years ago, comforting her as she passed from a 10 month battle against pancreatic cancer. Lindsay and Courtney (even as their daughter) had never seen or felt love like there was present in this moment. They were the dream team. Both Molly and Dan have said Linds and Court remind them of themselves, so in love and so right for each other. Lindsay is the logic to Courtney’s impulse and Courtney is the push to Lindsay’s want to fulfill every one of her dreams.

As we grew this new dream of opening a tattoo shop on Main Street in the beautiful town of Woodstock, VA, getting to be closer to our family here, it didn’t take long for us to come up with the name of our shop. Molly was the biggest dreamer we had ever met, and it only felt right to give this dream the name of The Black Rose, in honor of mom. She would have loved it here.
